Prefabricated HousingOrganisers of the wartime exhibition which will mark the 60th anniversary of World War Two are keen to speak to people who remember living in prefabricated housing in Croydon.
Councillor Stuart Collins, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: "I am delighted that Croydon Council has been chosen to host this major exhibition. We hope it will encourage residents to learn more about the Second World War and its continuing impact on their lives. "We would very much like to hear from local veterans who would be willing to join us at the exhibition to share their experiences of the war with the borough's younger generations." The £10 million exhibition, developed by the Imperial War Museum and supported by the Big Lottery Fund, is touring the UK throughout this anniversary year. It comes to Croydon in September and October and the four week event, held in Whitgift Square, will look at how local people kept their families safe, how wartime experiences changed lives and how people remember those they lost. A different part of Croydon's wartime experience will be highlighted each week, including the wartime experience of Croydon's children. The battle of Arnhem, Croydon's home front and the legacy of the war. |
