Golden Trojan Times
Enthusiasts, residents and former employees from the Croydon-based Trojan car
manufacturers have been flooding The Guardian newsroom with pictures and
memories following our appeal to help establish a museum dedicated to the
vehicles.

Responses from as far
a field as Canada have reached the Purley offices of The
Guardian, from people who read the May 1st story on the Trojan Museum Trust's
appeal for artefacts, photographs and memories of the car company during its
heyday.
Bill Dyer, who now lives on Purley Way opposite the Trojan factory during the
1930s, when he first became interested in the Croydon vehicles. Former employee
and Brighton Road resident Mr. L Hurford, who also now lives in Canada, started
work at the Trojan factory at the tender age of 17 years. He got a job assisting
on the two cycle engines for the Brook Bond Tea vans. His experience at Trojan
led to a job as a mechanic for the RAF but he returned to Trojan around five
years later to continue his career. |

Trojan enthusiast Lily Andy, from Brighton in West Sussex, donated these
photographs to the Trust including a snapshot of the company's stand at the
London, Earls Court show.
