Campaigners fighting to save Addiscombe station from the bulldozers are
racing against time this week to get the site listed with English Heritage. This
more urgent than ever as a new detailed planning application for residential
development looms.
The campaigners would like to turn the 136 year old station into a the only
UK railway museum. Andrew Pelling a Tory Councillor and member of the Greater
London Authority, has joined forces with the South Eastern and Chatham Railway
Preservation Society, and the local Residents Association to persuade English
Heritage of the site unique cultural interest.
With planning consent all but confirmed and the land almost sold the task
they face is ambitious.
